early songs - wind wound

early songs is based in leeds, uk, but draws comparisons to the quieter, more solitary moments of dusky, dusty outback-country of dirty three and silver ray. it’s not surprising, then, that this album is available through the australian label preservation (home also to tara jane o’neil, saddleback, and stephen basho-jungens) and is, in fact, already available on that continent.

the work of david scott, early songs’ music is built on deft finger-picking. often, this technique builds a trap-wire foundation for strings or light piano accompaniment to dance between. at other times, the solo guitar ebbs and flows on its own, creating a pastoral mood of simplified elegance. the production on the album captures the timbre of scott’s playing nicely, and assists in conveying an emotional, cinematic feel, and it should be no surprise then that scott has spent time scoring short films. just as the project’s name implies, it is not difficult to envision early morning scenes of love or loss playing out in front of his compositions.

look for an expanded release for wind wound on july 16th.
