dextro

i’ve had a couple of pleasant surprises lately, one of them being dextro. the most recent release from this largely solo work of glasgow’s ewan mckenzie is entitled consequence music and was released back in march.

while mentions of pastoral guitars coupled with keyboard processes and largely electronic drum skitters have brought about references to fellow scots boards of canada and morr music’s resident trip-gaze specialist ulrich schnauss, this is the kind of stuff that is best left to speak for itself, and thanks to the very generous mr mckenzie, we’re able to let that happen thanks to the dextro site:

dextro – atman (from consequence music)

dextro – calcutec (from consequence music)

dextro – the less we know (from animism ep)

dextro - consequence music

if that’s not enough, there’s this additional 27 minute live performance from march 2005 as well. the set is an impressive performance of mckenzie’s ability to move beyond the studio’s sterile confines and recreate familiar aspects of the constellation collective’s brand of post-rock with the hazy production techniques perfected by his fellow europeans.
